Securing a space for the garden that will give access to the entire community to participate. Gaining funds to install a fence, build raised beds with the help of a great team of volunteers and the towns assistance. Breaking ground was truly our biggest success this season!
What challenges did or does your project face?
Funding may be our biggest challenge in addition to securing plot "owners" since we may have a later start for the growing season.
How are you working to overcome them?
We will continue to have two flea-markets where we "sell" table space to vendors and sell our own plants. We are also working hard through social media to get the word out to the community about our activity. We hope to have small workshops to get the local children and families involved in the garden.
What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?
You need a committed group of people who are willing to share the workload. Developing a project like this from scratch is a big undertaking and you need the commitment of your core members. Everyone wants to be involved once all the hard work is done! We have also learned that there are resources out there that will help you with materials, you just have to do a little research and ASK for the help.
