We were able to use the money from this grant as well as team up with the local Elks organization and build two new garden beds and plant them full of plants. Once the veggies start to grow we will be having a cooking class teaching the kids how to cook the food we've grown. This has made many kids very interested in not only gardening but cooking new meals.
What challenges did or does your project face?
Building the garden beds was a bit of a challenge at first as we had to find a location to house them as well as a water source.
How are you working to overcome them?
Both of these problems were solved with the help of our Elks partners and a volunteer handyman. They now sit in front of the main doors for all parents to see when they pick up their kids.
What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?
By teaming up with another organization your dollars will go farther. We also asked local building supply companies to donate the supplies if we had the Elks to build and the SeedMoney grant to purchase plants. They are more willing to help when its not only one company supplying the entire project.
