Cable Community Farm

By Katie HancockOctober 13, 2017 No Comments
What were your biggest successes this season?

We installed a 22 X 72 seasonal high tunnel and held a community work day to construct raised beds, tool racks, and benches for the high tunnel. Eight households had raised bed plots within the structure. We also used the structure to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, eggplant, and lettuce for the our local food pantry.

What challenges did or does your project face?

We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization and the challenge that we regularly face is having enough volunteers to make our projects successful.

How are you working to overcome them?

We continously try to recruit new volunteers and plan to undertake a more targeted approach to community engagement in the future, enlisting groups to participate in addition to individual volunteers.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

Volunteer appreciation is critical to community engagement!
