Fay Garman Gardens

By William Browning No Comments
What were your biggest successes this season?

Construction and filling of an elevated cedar raised bed (our fourth) by volunteers from Portland Maine .
And more small grants from community supporters.

What challenges did or does your project face?

Our gardeners are elderly. They take great pride in their gardens (both the vegetable and flower gardens). We want to make this project accessible to them. One gardener uses a walker.

How are you working to overcome them?

We work to encourage new people (new residents) to join the group of gardeners. We have one new (younger) resident who is helping a lot.
We have purchased new lightweight hoses, new elevated raised bed, new outside storage box which can make tools more accessible and also provides a place to sit.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

We are able to accommodate older people so they can enjoy gardening.
