Georgetown Central School Garden and Greenhouse

By Debra Thibodeau No Comments
What were your biggest successes this season?

Our kids had a rough go of it with the weather being what it was.....we have started our garden late and it has impacted our growing season as well as our volunteer base. They have a great attitude, however. We have created new vertical beds for our greenhouse. We have done a huge fundraiser for the fire department in town for their annual plant sale. Thus far, that is our greatest success.

What challenges did or does your project face?

Weather has held us back quite a bit. Plus a deer broke down our fence, so it needs to be fixed.

How are you working to overcome them?

We have a crew fixing the fence in the next week or so. Weather we just had to wait out.....

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

We need to do a crowd funding campaign for gas for our furnace in the greenhouse. There are very few grants out there that have given us $$ for gas. If we could obtain that, we would be able to heat our greenhouse and extend our season even more. This year was futile as it was below freezing right into April.
