Georgetown Central School Garden

By Debra Thibodeau No Comments
What were your biggest successes this season?

We were able to produce produce and give it away in a weekly event here in Georgetown called Gleaning. In conjunction with the Merrymeeting Gleaners, several local farms and local townspeople, we gave away hundreds of pounds of produce to local residents.

What challenges did or does your project face?

We were lacking in volunteers this summer. This really taxed the few that were volunteering.

How are you working to overcome them?

We are working with an Americorp Vista person to do volunteer recruitment. We continue to get the word out there about needing volunteers. We are working with a Cooperative Extension person to spread the word in the gardening world.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

We learned different ways to rework out outdoor space so that we can utilize our space better to grow more produce.
