Get kids growing at Eastport Schools

By stephanie allardJune 15, 2018 No Comments
What were your biggest successes this season?

Completion of our greenhouse space and the year round production of veggies for use in the school cafeteria. Also, a new horticulture class was offered the was extremely successful. This class, aside from growing food, worked to beautify the school grounds.

What challenges did or does your project face?

Future funding to support a greenhouse coordinator for the project. There is so much momentum right now and it needs to continue, but it's a job that is too big for one teacher to manage.

How are you working to overcome them?

We are looking at creative ways to raise funds.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

If anyone ever organizes a seedling sale to raise money, do not put a price on anything but rather let people "pay what they can/want". Our community was immensely generous and we raised over $1200.00 this way. Probably twice as much as we would have had we priced our seedlings.
