Athens Drive Magnet High School, located in Raleigh, NC, has our outdoor leaning center complete with some North Carolina native plants and vegetables. Through the collaboration with our local community and school based vocational gardens, student in the Ag science and students of inclusion (3rd grade level - cognitively) have worked together to provide an edible garden for staff and students to promote our programs through fundraising and selling of their harvest.
What challenges did or does your project face?
Donations through the live campaign and spreading the word, yet was able to supplement needs with other grants to make the garden come to life.
How are you working to overcome them?
Continued writing of grants for our student programs through many vendors and providing them opportunities.
What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?
Student in Ag Science Pathway, along with the incident classes have collaborated, been creative, used critical thinking and communicated throughout the planting, growing and harvesting process. This program's philosophy is built on the attitude that an “I can” mindset can be learned. Along with building mathematical and reading foundations, our program at Athens Drive increases student confidence so students can persevere over any hurdle.
Please let me know if you are to have any questions or need any more information. Thank you allowing us to have this opportunity to be awarded and utilize the grant for the benefit of the students.
