Hall School Garden Project

By Mary Dunn and Emily Dufford No Comments
What were your biggest successes this season?

We worked in every single classroom in our school. Every classroom participated in either indoor gardening and/or outdoor gardening experiences.Every classroom cooked with something they grew. Every classroom participated and included a piece of literature with their work. We had several taste tests. Our after school garden program was also a big success providing even more gardening and healthy cooking opportunities to our kids. Our cafeteria served food we grew on their salad bar. Our FoodCorps service member has been a huge asset and is definitely responsible for our continued success.

What challenges did or does your project face?

Our consistent and ongoing challenge is working with our food services. Getting our garden produce and taste testings on their menu continues to be a struggle for us.

How are you working to overcome them?

We have a fairly new Farm to School team that went to the training in Shelburne Farms VT and we are now working with our new Food Serviced director.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

Don't give up. Keep going. Even in the face of adversity.
