MCA Garden

What were your biggest successes this season?

We have expanded our composting program and provided two grade levels with hands on opportunities to learn science standards via insects and worms. All grades are participating in adding to the compost, learning about recycling in the process.

What challenges did or does your project face?

A change in program director late in the season left us behind the spring planting season.

How are you working to overcome them?

We are working on revamping the garden layout, adding raised beds, and having summer garden days for students to come and learn about late crops that can be harvested this fall when school is back in session.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

Plan early! The end of the school year gets so busy and hectic that time will slip by fast. Next spring we would like to have opportunities ready and available in the garden for students to take breaks from state testing.
