Nourish Babylon Garden

What were your biggest successes this season?

We installed the production garden as planned. Our lettuce is ready for harvesting. The others are still growing, and beginning to set fruit. We also received a gift of 90 blueberry bushes which were planted, and from which we have begun to harvest blueberries.

What challenges did or does your project face?

We had a major setback in planting because two neighbors didn't like the look of the production garden and put in a complaint to the town government. However, there is generally broad support from the neighborhood. The second setback has been the weather which stayed colder and wetter longer than hopes, and which also put the production behind.

How are you working to overcome them?

We addressed what seems to have been the main issue of complaint by the neighbors by making a slight modification. And now that the garden is green and growing, it changes the perception.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

1. Even if you think you have been communicating with others, it takes more.
2. You can't rush nature!
3. Abundant and gracious gifts can just show up, and to have that happen you need to connect with a lot of people and tell your story to a lot of people in order to connect with the people whose passion matches your need!
