Orphans Kitchen Garden

What were your biggest successes this season?

50 Orphans trained on vegetable growing using kitchen garden approach
50 Orphans given vegetable seeds to start up a vegetable kitchen garden at their households
34 Vegetable Kitchen gardens established in a plot of 20 by 10 meters each at 34 households.
10 Orphans earned an average of USD 52 from sell of vegetables each.

What challenges did or does your project face?

Inadequate financial resources to facilitate more staffs to support the increasing number of orphans
Inadequate agriculural tools; some orphans could not afford a hand hoe, spade and rake. As an organization, we do not have enough resources to support all of them with tools.
Pests and Diseases of vegetables example wilt affected some tomatoe gardens.

How are you working to overcome them?

We are creating partnership with other organizations to support us reach many orphans.
We also do fundraising both locally and at international level to support our activities

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

In a small plot of 20 by 10 meters fully maximised, one can earn over 200 USD from sell of vegetables considering all factors constant.
