We have created a great deal of enthusiasm within the school. We started from scratch in a large area and have been able to build 8 raised beds for the classes, a space for a club garden, nearly completed our enclosure and working toward an irrigation system
What challenges did or does your project face?
We have not had our irrigation system completed so we have been hauling water to the site. It has been unbearably hot in Sarteneja and the students are getting a bit burned out with this task.
How are you working to overcome them?
We are partnering with an agricultural school who has an agronomist that is designing our system and providing much of the material.
With our garden fully functioning next year we are excited to jump into work on planting, tending, harvesting and learning
What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?
If I had it to do again I would get more of the larger components of the garden completed before we got the kids so excited. We had some difficulty keeping the kids interested while we were building the beds and tilling the soil. They were eager to plant.
