The garden launched the Planting and Playing educational series this summer which served 75 children ranging from 7-12 years every Saturday from 10-11A.
Programming started starting June 17th - September 3rd with a primary focus on arts & crafts, cooking demonstration classes, story telling and assisting in garden activities.
What challenges did or does your project face?
Increasing community volunteering and participation. 80% of our volunteers come from outside of the community through our ChicagoCares partnership.
How are you working to overcome them?
Increased outreach to the immediate community. The garden is launching a Young Growers program and have partnered with the neighborhood elementary school. We will also canvas the area to advertise the 2018 growing season.
What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?
Collaboration and partnership is key for the growth of our organization
