1. Added linear bed # 8, an information kiosk and a brochure to inform visitors to our garden and to encourage new memberships and garden volunteers
2. Established new garden accounts with two main vendors to facilitate garden supplies purchases and accounting
3. We have donated over 930 pounds of fresh vegetables and herbs to agencies who serve people in our area who require assistance to meet their food needs.
What challenges did or does your project face?
Recruiting new volunteers. We have the same eight working volunteers with double the numbers of beds.
How are you working to overcome them?
We are considering several options to increase our volunteer capacity by reaching out beyond our local church and school communities. We are also visiting other, more established, community gardens to learn from best community garden practices.
What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?
Our community garden activities have provided us with community development opportunities within other ministry groups of our church, such as the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, Boy Scouts, 1 Day for Him, and Altar Guild. We look forward to increasing these activities in 2018 and beyond.
