Thomas Jefferson Elemntary School Garden

What were your biggest successes this season?

With the money we raised with SeedMoney and other fundraisers, we were able to purchase a gardening program with EnrichLA, who will put in new large planter boxes for every grade level and a new food-prep sink in our school garden. Also, starting in fall, we will have rotating garden classes for every class to get time in the garden!

What challenges did or does your project face?

We have a lot of weeds to deal with constantly, so we need some more strategies and work from volunteers to deal with it on a ongoing basis.

How are you working to overcome them?

I will attempt to do more reaching out and incentives for volunteers next year. Plus, organize some separate Garden Commitree meetings to strategize as a team.

What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?

Have one major goal per year. Gardens are long-term projects, so you can’t get it all done in a year, but have a 1-year plan and then a 5-year plan. Take it step by step!
