We were able to build a youth farm stand and start operating it on campus as well as going to the local farmers market and selling the organic produce our students grow at the market twice a week. The students were involved in building the Youth stand as well as helping price and sell the produce and learn the skills needed of simple math addition and customer service.
What challenges did or does your project face?
The challenge of having enough staff to cover all areas that students are working in with enough support for the students.
How are you working to overcome them?
Better staff management to ensure all students have the support we need.
What did you or your project learn this season that might be useful to others as well?
This project has been very successful in bringing in community partners to our school not only for the garden project but other areas the school has needed help. Community support is one of the best ways to grow a program and make it successful since the community has an invested interest in it's success.
