How it Works

The SeedMoney Challenge is a group crowdfunding competition open to any public food garden project located anywhere in the world. Participating projects include youth gardens, community gardens, community farms, and food bank gardens. Projects keep 100% of what they raise and compete for challenge grants of $100 to $1,000. The more your project raises, the larger the grant it qualifies to receive. Once accepted, your project is automatically considered for every grant type it qualifies for — no separate grant applications needed.

Key Dates

Our online application will open on June 21, 2026. Between now and then, you can get ready by joining our mailing list and taking pictures of your gardens and gardeners.

We will be accepting grant applications until 11:59 pm Eastern Time on November 1st. We will only consider applications that have been successfully submitted via our website by that deadline.

At noon Eastern Time on November 15th, all funding campaigns whose applications were submitted on time and fit our criteria will go live. Let your project’s supporters know in advance.

At noon Eastern Time on December 15th, the 30-day challenge period ends. Your campaign will be able to keep whatever it has raised even if it hasn’t managed to reach its funding goal.

Grants Available

We offer four types of grants. By entering the SeedMoney Challenge, a project will automatically be considered for any and all grants for which it qualifies based on its performance in the competition or its geographic location.
